If you have never done one before, the Mauvoisin via ferrata is the perfect first time course. This last weekend I dragged some of my work buddies out to the verbier valley to come and taste some cheese at the Le Chable cheese festival. As we wanted to make a day of it we decided to head out early and try the via ferrata. Little did I know that both of them are afraid of heights and the via ferrata demands that we cross numerous extremely wobbily suspension bridges. However, if you don’t have a fear of heights this is the perfect place to start. The via ferrata itself isn’t very tricky at all and gives a good taste of what it feels like to be clipped onto a sheer rock face by a few bolts (well in this case many bolts).
After the first via ferrata (yes there are 2 right next to each other) we felt comfortable enough to attempt the second one. What a different experience. Still not too tough but a lot longer and far more exposed. However, the tougher it is, the better the photos come out. I would definitely recommend the first one to any beginners and the second one to those that felt the first one just wasn’t enough!
After the via ferrata we felt like we deserved to head to the cheese festival and had a magical time matching plate of cheese with bottles of wine. The wonder of having a van is that when you get to a festival and drink to much to drive, there’s a comfortable bed waiting without having to go anywhere. I must admit though it was a tight squeeze with 3 of us in there!
